‘Cheap Irish Homes’ is a television show now in its third season and produced by Irish national broadcaster (RTÉ). It follows the popular home-hunters, host Maggie Molloy, accompanied by individuals looking for a home and it is now going to be following potential buyers looking for their ideal properties around Europe.
This week, accompanied by an Irish duo, she embarked on a journey to the Costa del Sol, in the hope discovering their dream residence within the Malaga province for the subsequent season of the renowned spin-off show, Cheap European Homes.
Several years back, RTÉ, in collaboration with host Maggie Molloy and her co-presenter building engineer Kieran McCarthy, started a series spotlighting how young couples sought out cost-effective and inspiring residences across Ireland.
The initiative aimed to assist young buyers in discovering homes nationwide that were reasonably priced, allowing for immediate occupancy without substantial renovations.
Speaking to RTÉ Lifestyle, Maggie Molloy remarked, “With escalating house prices and rising material costs, prioritising value is paramount to us, ensuring we do not compel individuals to undertake extensive projects beyond their comfort zone.”
In her latest endeavor, Molloy adheres to a comparable format as Cheap Irish Homes, but now scouring Europe for the most budget-friendly properties for potential owners. In the forthcoming six-part series, the presenter endeavors to secure reasonably priced properties for a range of different individuals and couples seeking to establish roots overseas.
Maggie’s journey takes her through Portugal, France, and Spain, with a local architect accompanying her in each locale, offering insights on property conditions, renovation possibilities, and local regulations and tax laws. This week, a segment was filmed right here on the Costa del Sol.
The objective of the visit to the Costa del Sol was to convey Maggie Molloy’s expertise in locating an affordable home for the prospective Irish couple, looking for a fresh start in Spain. The television crew was sighted in Nerja at El Rincón restaurant, where the presenter dined with the hopeful couple, exploring the prospect of acquiring a home in their desired destination.
Amidst a table adorned with traditional Andalusian fare, they deliberated on the hidden treasures of Nerja and Frigiliana, alongside the pros and cons of the properties they had viewed. Following the shows protocol, house-hunters are escorted to three distinct properties, varying from those requiring extensive renovations to options that are ready to move in to.
This upcoming season of the show is scheduled to premiere on RTÉ around the beginning of 2025.
“It was quite hectic; our filming week was packed, but we thoroughly enjoyed our time on the Costa del Sol,” the film crew and producer added.
The Costa del Sol has always received significant attention from Irish buyers seeking a slice of Mediterranean paradise. Drawn by its temperate climate, stunning coastal views, and vibrant culture, many Irish individuals and families have chosen to invest in properties along the beaches and golf courses of southern Spain. The pull of affordable real estate, coupled with the region’s accessibility and amenities, has cemented its status as a preferred destination for those seeking a second home or a permanent retreat abroad.
