As well as a town, Marbella is also what is called a Municipality, basically an entire postal district. It stretches along the coast from Guadalmina (the furthest point east, to Cabopino (the furthest point west).
Within this stretch of coastline are some of the most popular holiday resorts on the Costa del Sol, as well as some newer popular destinations. Marbella is home to resorts like San Pedro de Alcantara, Puerto Banus, Nueva Andalucia, Central Marbella, The Old Town (casco antiguo), and further east in a section called East Marbella, Elviria and Cabopino.
Each of these resorts offers something unique and different from the other with some being more family orientated and quieter, whereas others are more lively and busy.
