Exciting time ahead for June in Puerto Banus, Marbella with the arrival of the brand new global sport that is set to take place in some of the most prestigious locations such Monaco, Hong Kong, Geneva, Venice, and in June, Puerto Banús. The sport is a new sustainable, eco-friendly and adrenaline pumping set of races called E1 (Electric Offshore Formula 1, sanctioned by the International Motorboat Racing Union. Created by Alejandro Agag and Rodi Basso (an Italian engineer with experience working with NASA, Ferrari, and Red Bull Racing), E1 will take place throughout 2024.
This new international event to come to the prestigious marina of Puerto Banús is made possible with the support of local and regional authorities: the Junta de Andalucía’s Department of Tourism, Culture and Sport; Marbella Town Hall; Malaga Provincial Government; and the Western Costa del Sol Town Council Association.
The E1 teams will be led by some of the world’s most prominent sports figures, including Spain’s Rafa Nadal, F1 hero Sergio Pérez, former Chelsea FC favourite Didier Drogba, NFL’s Tom Brady, and Steve Aoki, among others. One of the most recent tams to be added, Westbrook Racing, has been formed by Hollywood legend Will Smith.
How will the race work?
Each team will consist of one man and one woman, who must each race for an equal duration. The drivers are used to endurance racing as they are renowned motorsport professionals from events like Dakar, Trial, W Series, or Formula Ford. Representing Spain are Laia Sanz and Cris Lazarraga.
Puerto Banús will host this sustainable event, which is projected to have one of the largest international audiences of 2024, with an estimated reach of over 1 billion people on social media across four different platforms. As you walk through Puerto Banus you can already see the grandstand that has been erected for people to watch the event.
E1, the electric Formula 1 at sea, embodies:

The competition will commence on the first Saturday in June, 01/06/24, in Puerto Banús.
On Saturday, 1 June, teams will compete in the qualifying races, with the semi-final and final taking place on Sunday.
The VIP grandstands will accommodate around 3,000 spectators, offering hospitality comparable to that found at F1 or ATP events.
Race format for the E1 Electric Offshore Formula 1 will be:
• R1 – Qualifying
• R2 – Quarter-final
• R3 – Semi-finals
• R4 – Four teams will race in the final
All teams will compete in the same boat, the RaceBird, with the outcome determined by the skill of each driver.
