England Womens Football Team Heading To Marbella

England’s women’s Euro champions and World Cup finalists, the Lionesses football squad is gearing up for the Euro 2025 qualifying rounds with a training camp in the sunny south of Spain right here in Marbella. The senior team, accompanied by the under-23s, will commence their preparations next week on 19 February in Marbella at the Marbella Football Centre.

This training camp holds particular significance for the senior squad, who are set to engage in two friendly matches at the Estadio Nuevo Mirador in Algeciras. The first encounter will see them face Austria on Friday 23 February at 8.45 pm, followed by a match against Italy on Tuesday 27 February at 6 pm. Tickets for these fixtures are available for purchase on the Algeciras CF website.

Senior head coach Sarina Wiegman emphasized the importance of these matches in gearing up for the Euro qualifying campaign: “This will be our starting point to prepare for the Euro qualifying campaign beginning in April, so there’s no time to waste in February.”

The warm weather and excellent facilities in Spain are expected to provide an optimal environment for the team to make the most of their time together.

The under-23 squad will also partake in the training camp, underscoring England’s dedication to nurturing young talent. Coach Emma Coates highlighted the camp’s role in providing valuable experience for emerging players: “The England pathway aims to develop players who are ready-made for the senior team.”

Excitement surrounds the prospect of the young players gaining exposure to the senior environment, setting the stage for their future endeavors. The under-23s will face Spain on Thursday 22 February at 12 pm at the Marbella Football Centre before taking on the Netherlands on Monday 26 February at 1 pm at the Banús Football Centre.

For Marbella’s expat community this is a great opportunity to see the England women’s team in action and of course to give them some great support!
