El Pimpi bodega in Malaga city centre, an iconic venue for locals and tourists is set to unveil a brand new venture in onr of the most prestigious locations on the Marbella Golden Mile. The historic Malaga bar has chosen to expand, and the new venture is anticipated to be operational in time for summer at Marbella’s five start luxury Puente Romano Hotel Resort. According to an article in SUR the Marbella El Pimpi will embrace a more contemporary ambiance compared to the original, although it will retain the traditional style that has earned it global reputation as a must visit for anyone headng to Malaga city.
The agreement has been finalised, and work is already underway at the new premises. While the exact opening date remains undisclosed, the intention is to have it ready in May 2024.
The addition of El Pimpi will contribute to the diverse array of restaurants that already adorn the Puente Romano complex, which already boasts over 20 international bars and restaurants. Standout offerings include the Peruvian restaurant Coya, the haute cuisine restaurant Nobu, the Italian restaurant Cipriani, and the Leña project by Malaga chef Dani García.
The hotel complex emphasises that El Pimpi serves as a reference point for Malaga province. Consequently, both Puente Romano and El Pimpi share a connection through their essence and traditional Andalusian aesthetics.
Bodegas El Pimpi has stood as one of the city’s main attractions, cherished by locals and visitors alike, since its establishment in August 1971. Over half a century later, the business venture initiated by Francisco Campos and Pepe Cobos now employs more than 140 people.
The decision to open in Marbella aligns with the aspirations of Malaga actor and Marbella celebrity Antonio Banderas, one of the bodega’s partners, to extend the presence of El Pimpi worldwide. Since joining the project in December 2017, this has been one of Banderas’ key priorities, as outlined by Pablo Gonzalo, another partner at the bodega. In response to the possibility of El Pimpi expanding beyond Malaga, Gonzalo noted, “possibly one day it could happen” because “El Pimpi possesses the brand and strength to be exported.”
Banderas is also the founder of the Tercer Acto group, which owns five restaurants in Malaga city: Tercer Acto, Doña Inés, La Barra de Doña Inés, Atrezzo, and La Pérgola del Mediterráneo. The latter, situated in the Real Club Mediterráneo, opened just a few months ago in the La Malagueta area and has swiftly become one of the city’s most popular dining establishments.
