Free Entrance In Malaga Museums

The vibrant and popular city of Malaga, the capital of the Costa del Sol, is offering a great opportunity for tourists and locals alike to explore its rich tapestry of museums and attractions without charge (yes that is FREE) on Wednesday, 27 September, in celebration of World Tourism Day.

This tradition, started by the Malaga city council in 2004, has gained popularity over the years, providing access to 34 ‘must visit’ sites without the financial burden of paying entrance fees.

Among the treasures that can be enjoyed without expense are renowned venues such as the Picasso Museum, CAC Málaga, Centre Pompidou, the awe-inspiring cathedral, and the majestic Alcazaba. This year’s World Tourism Day is particularly poignant as it revolves around the theme of sustainable tourism and green investments.

Venturing beyond these celebrated destinations, one can also immerse themselves in the cultural riches of Malaga at no cost. Museums like the Museum of Malaga, Picasso’s Birthplace, Carmen Thyssen, the Collection of the Russian Museum Saint Petersburg, Revello de Toro Museum, the airport museum, the Jorge Rando Museum, the Gerald Brenan House, the Nereo Shipyard Ecomuseum, the Athenaeum of Malaga, Málaga Club FC museum and tour, the Glass and Crystal museum, and the Interactive Music museum open their doors for visitors to explore. Some of these venues even offer complimentary guided tours to enhance the experience.

For those with a love for history and architecture, the Gibralfaro fort, Roman theatre, English Cemetery, archaeological sites of La Araña, and the Botanical-Historical Garden of La Concepción will also be accessible at no charge.

World Tourism Day, a celebration initiated by the World Tourism Organization (WTO) in 1980, aims to underscore the vital role tourism plays in various destinations globally.

This year, the WTO is emphasizing the necessity for increased environmentally-friendly investments that are aligned with the well-being of people, the planet, and prosperity.

Last year marked a significant milestone for Malaga’s World Tourism Day celebrations, with over 24,000 individuals taking advantage of free access to the city’s museums, exhibitions, and landmarks. This attendance figure represented the highest turnout in four years, a great testament to the enduring allure of Malaga’s cultural heritage.
