Rivals

Disney is set to produce a fresh series along the Costa del Sol and in Malaga city centre for its streaming service, comprising of 8 parts. Titled “Rivals,” the show will be immersed in the cutthroat realm of 1980s television, boasting elements of comedy. Lead roles will be undertaken by Alex Hassell (known as the superhero Translucent in The Boys) and David Tennant (most famous for being the most popular Doctor Who and Good Omens).

Fresco Film based in Malaga is the driving force behind this Disney+ series, with support from ITV Studios’ brand new drama division called Happy Prince. Filming locations include Estepona, the heart of Malaga city, and Motril in the Granada province. These settings will be meticulously designed to exude the ’80s vibe’ required for the adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s best-selling novel, “Rivals,” extracted from her Rutshire Chronicles series.

Hassell and Tennant take on the roles of two neighbours living within an exclusive residential enclave. Hassell embodies the charismatic Rupert Campbell-Black, a former Olympic champion and member of the Conservative Party. His character engages in a heated rivalry with the ambitious and ego-driven Lord Tony Baddingham, who wields control over the Corinium television channel.

The series delves into the intricate and tumultuous world of television, exploring the struggles of presenters, actors, producers, and journalists who find themselves caught in the crossfire between the politician and the magnate.

The eclectic ensemble cast will bring well known celebrities to the Costa del Sol. The show features recognisable faces from British productions including Victoria Smurfit (known for Bloodlands), Bella Maclean (featured in Sex Education), Nafessa Williams (renowned for Black Lightning), Katherine Parkinson (a familiar face from Humans), Oliver Chris (noted for The Crown), Danny Dyer (formerly of EastEnders), and Claire Rushbrook (acknowledged for her role in Sherwood), among other talented actors.

Specifically, they are searching for a slender, 1.75-metre-tall male for the Estepona and Malaga city scenes. On the days of filming in Motril, a more inclusive casting call is underway, seeking individuals of any gender aged between 18 and 80.
