Malaga Christmas Lights 2023

There is always a high volume of Marbella visitors to Malaga during the festive season for shopping and of course to see the amazing lights.

When the lights are installed in Calle Larios and surrounding streets of central Malaga you know Christmas has very nearly arrived. Officials from the city council have unveiled the details of this year’s festive illuminations. Councillor Teresa Porras declared that the seasonal spectacle will transform the capital of the Costa del Sol into a “European benchmark.”

The spectacular illumination ceremony is scheduled for 24 November at 7 pm, coinciding with Black Friday. The city centre is poised to dazzle spectators with approximately 2.2 million LED lights adorning 500 streets, squares, and roundabouts. Noteworthy landmarks in the city will also be bedecked with lights, enhancing the holiday atmosphere.

Calle Larios consistently draws the most visitors and prompts the most selfies per square metre. It is a central pedestrianised shopping street that will retain its charm, continuing last year’s theme of celestial angels. The council touts it as an “exclusive design” crafted exclusively for Malaga.

Architectural wonders like the cathedral’s Mocha tower and selected buildings in the Plaza de la Constitución will once again be adorned with spectacular video mapping. The Alameda will feature an intricately woven network of lights suspended through the canopy of trees, creating the ambiance of an enchanted forest.

No Christmas spectacle is complete without a fitting musical accompaniment. This year’s soundtrack will blend seasonal classics with occasional ventures into the realm of great orchestras. Calle Larios will resonate with tunes such as Jingle Bells by the Johann Strauss Orchestra, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, Carol of the Bells by Pentatonix, Navidad Épica, and Hacía Belén Van una Burra.

The schedule for Christmas lights includes three daily shows on Calle Larios, except for December 24th and 31st. The performances are set for 6.30pm, 8pm, and 10 pm, while the lights will be switched on daily at 6.30 pm. On weekdays, the lights will be turned off at midnight, extending to 2am on Fridays through to Sunday.
