Marbella’s Infamous Sisu Hotel Set for Revival Under New Ownership

One of Marbella’s most controversial properties is poised for a dramatic return. The former Sisu Boutique Hotel, left derelict near Puerto Banús for almost six years after a devastating fire in 2020, is set to reopen following a significant investment and complete redevelopment.

The project is being led by entrepreneur Arnaud Albouhair, founder of Nao Pool Club and son of the late nightlife figure Olivia Vàlere. With plans to invest approximately €15 million, the new ownership aims not only to restore the building but also to distance it from a long and troubled past that has shadowed the site for decades.

Situated alongside the A-7 motorway between Puerto Banús and Nueva Andalucía, the future development is currently in its design phase. Large banners already draped across the façade hint at the ambition behind the project, inviting passers-by with the message: “Have you ever dreamt of paradise? Welcome, you’re here.”

The redevelopment will transform the property into a five-star boutique hotel comprising around 50 rooms—significantly fewer than before, allowing for larger, more luxurious accommodation. Plans also include two restaurants, an expansive spa, and a nightclub, creating a high-end destination designed to appeal to Marbella’s ever growing international clientele.

Construction is expected to begin in the coming months, with completion targeted for 2028. Despite the extensive damage caused by the 2020 fire, the existing structure is reportedly sound and will be retained, although all internal systems, including plumbing and utilities, will require full replacement.

A new name for the hotel has yet to be confirmed, with the intention of establishing a distinct identity separate from Nao Pool. Notably, the club itself is expected to operate for only a limited period before transitioning to new ownership.

A New Chapter for a Notorious Landmark

Now, under the direction of the Vàlere family, there is a clear intention to turn the page on the chequered past of Sisu. The redevelopment represents not just a physical transformation, but an effort to redefine the site entirely—shifting it from a symbol of controversy to one of refined luxury.

If successful, the project could restore a long-neglected corner of Marbella while reshaping the narrative of a property that, for decades, has rarely been out of the headlines.

For so long it has been an eyesore on route to some of the most luxurious resorts of Marbella.
