San Pedro de Alcantara is becoming a diner’s paradise with new restaurants opening up on what seems like a weekly basis.
The latest addition to what we are now calling ‘The San Pedro Strip’ is one of the most impressive yet.
Benisty (named after its owner) is a trendy new ‘gastro’ restaurant. It’s sleek black seating, low level lighting (with a hint of purple), huge wine cellar located behind a glass screen and kitchen area also in full view behind a glass screen, all helps to add a touch of class to this new establishment.
There is plenty of seating outside although the air-conditioned interior was our choice for the night as it was still 30 plus degrees outside.
The menu at Benisty San Pedro de Alcantara is incredible and mouth-watering. Every dish was described in a way that made us want to order everything off the menu. However, sense prevailed (well nearly) and we opted for a mixture of starters to share, a main course each and a pudding to share.
Starters – there are many starters to choose from as well as a selection of ‘starters to share’. We opted for the Tataki of Scallops with roasted cherry tomatoes and mango, as well as the Brie cheese croquette truffle with beetroot mayonnaise.
There was more than enough for two people, in fact we could have easily just had the croquettes as there were eight of them for just 7,90 euros.
For main courses Hannah went for the grilled Iberian black pork fillet marinated in spices and red curry powder, while I opted for the fillet steak with Gorgonzola sauce topped with a carpaccio of roasted pear and a reduction of amontillado (sherry).
We washed this down with a lovely Rioja Crianza (reasonably priced at 21 euros although the house red is very good, a Rioja Crianza priced at 18 euros).
Even though we clearly didn’t need to we decided to share a pudding and chose the deconstructed cheesecake.
The food at Benisty San Pedro de Alcantara was simply amazing with service to match. There is an extensive wine menu featuring a good choice of Spanish, French, Italian, Argentinean and Chilean wines.
For us this is going to be a regular haunt for sure as we have many other dishes to work our way through. Just a bit of background, Benisty is owned and run by the son of Simon from San Pedro institution Albert and Simon.
Price Range: Moderate
Meal for Two: 2 x starters to share (scallops being the most expensive item at 15,90 euros), 2 x main courses (fillet steak being one of the most expensive at 21,90 euros), a pudding, bottle of red wine, 2 x glasses of house red wine and a bottle of still water – total 101 euros
